About Me

As an elite cyclist and sport scientist, I bring a unique blend of practical experience and analytical expertise to my coaching. This fusion of firsthand athletic experience and academic knowledge forms the foundation of my coaching framework.

My Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science degree provides a deep understanding of exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sports psychology, informed by my own experiences as a high performance athlete. This allows me to design training plans grounded in proven scientific principles. Plans that are not only effective in maximising performance but also work for the individual.

My passion for cycling, interwoven with my academic training, fuels my deep investment in each athlete's journey. I believe in fostering a collaborative partnership, working together to overcome challenges

One on One

My approach centres on individualised, one on one coaching, utilising science backed training strategies to maximise athlete performance. Recognising individual differences in schedule, location, training history, and goals, I prioritise a fully personalised, one on one approach. Your 100% tailored training program will factor in your specific goals, weekly social rides, preferred training styles, and integrate seamlessly with your work week and lifestyle for long term enjoyment and sustainable success.

Grounded in scientific rigour and informed by peer reviewed research, my evidence based practice integrates the best available evidence with my expertise and your individual preferences. My academic background equips me to critically analyse, research and translate complex findings into practical, effective training protocols. We'll maintain open communication, ensuring you understand the science behind your training and how it directly relates to your goals and circumstances.

This holistic training philosophy incorporates a variety of training methods, ensuring a well rounded approach to your development, from building an aerobic base to developing neuromuscular power, addressing all aspects of performance. “I started training with Liam in September of 2023.  At the time my goal was to finish the Indian Pacific Wheel Race a 5500km self supported bikepacking race from Fremantle to the Sydney Opera House. With Liam’s support, coaching and knowledge I smashed my goal of a month and finished the race in 22 days finishing 3rd. Each month I would send Liam my roster and he would plan my training before or after work and so I could get in the right types of training when I had the time while also having time for rest. "I have been coached by Liam these past 2 years. Initially, I started with Liam after some cycling downtime due to shoulder surgery. We had a goal of a return to racing and penultimately the Grafton to Inverell road race with a lead in of 6 months. Liam guided me through this period with a well formulated approach that increased my FTP by some 30 watts. At the same time, he structured this around improving my endurance, which is critical for a 228km race such as the Grafton to Inverell. I like the fact that Liam is always in contact. Feedback is rapid and honest. He utilises the data constantly to evaluate your progress and adjusts the program accordingly. Life outside of cycling constantly changes, and Liam always has the flexibility to work around this. There was many a time that Liam would change a session on the day when I advised him of a heavy professional work day. His sport science degree and NRS cycling background were invaluable. HIs ability to articulate In layman's terms gives you a full understanding of the dynamics required to progress, more importantly enjoy this side of cycling. "Liam is a great coach. He adds high value to my input. Liam’s approach forms a team with me at the centre to achieve my cycling goals. I’ve worked with Liam for just under two years and his coaching has been instrumental in transforming my performances across several cycling disciplines including crits, gravel races, and my main focus, road races. The structure and guidance Liam’s coaching provides help me exceed targets and results I was unable to coordinate and balance with my life outside of the bike, on my own. This is no small order given the disparity between our ages and cycling ability. His mature and professional engagement, empathy and understanding, is well beyond his years. It comes from his blend of tertiary education and the years in the highest level of cycling competition in Oceania-Australia. Liam offers a very collaborative approach and quickly adjusts my plan to accommodate changes in available training time as well as prioritising appropriate recovery. He provides clear, digestible instruction and guidance in the written form too. I know exactly what is required, what sensations I should be feeling, and what progress is targeted from his input on my TrainingPeaks dashboard.
